About & editorial standards

SCI Phoenix is an independent editorial project. We curate trusted, clinician-vetted patient-education resources on spinal cord injury and publish plain-language guides synthesized from authoritative sources — so people living with SCI, and those who care for them, can find practical guidance in one place.

Who we are

Content is produced by the SCI Phoenix Editorial team. We are writers and editors — not your care team. We do not employ named clinicians to author or sign individual guides, and we deliberately publish no fabricated bylines. Every guide is an editorial synthesis of published material from the organizations listed below, written in plain language and clearly marked as educational information only.

Editorial standards

How we make our guides

  1. We identify a secondary complication or self-management topic that recurs across trusted SCI resources.
  2. We gather the relevant patient-education materials — handouts, booklets, and modules — from the standards bodies below.
  3. We synthesize them into a single plain-language guide, preserving the clinical substance while removing jargon.
  4. We attribute and link every source, and date the guide.
  5. Guides are reviewed and revised over time; those still in review are marked in-progress until that pass completes.

How we vet sources

We draw only from established spinal-cord-injury clinical and consumer-education publishers — among them the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA), the Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center (MSKTC), SCIRE Project, eLearnSCI / ISCoS, and the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, alongside other rehabilitation hospitals and national SCI organizations. Our resource directory links straight to what each organization publishes, so you can always read the original.
